We started tracking "effort rebounds" separately - those loose balls that required extra hustle, those rebounds where players had to fight through contact, or those situations where our smaller players outworked taller opponents for boards. We created what the team called the "blue collar index," which measured these effort plays. Every Monday, we'd highlight the top three "blue collar" performers from the previous week. This friendly competition created a culture where hustle became contagious.
